IF YOUR KID(s) HAVE NOT ENROLLED IN THE SPRING TERM 2025, PLEASE DON’T USE THIS PAGE. INSTEAD, CONTINUE TO FOLLOW OUR WEBSITE AND NEWSLETTER FOR UPDATES.
The Muslim Family Center is thrilled to announce the launch of our first Summer Camp!
For some time, the MFC community has requested different summer programming. A parent survey was distributed in early-May to gauge current interest. Respondents overwhelmingly supported the idea of a weekday summer camp and we are moving forward to serve those needs!
The MFC Summer Camp is designed to provide an engaging and enriching educational experience for children ages 6-11 and, due to space limitations, is restricted to those students who are already enrolled in the MFC Maktab Program.
📅 Registration Deadline: Make sure to secure your spot by registering ASAP.
The following is a summary of the 2025 MFC Summer Camp offering.
Goals:
Diversify our Islamic education offerings with top-quality programming that encourages students to learn about Islamic guidance and see the world through an Islamic mindset.
Utilize creative teaching strategies and resources that make learning about Allah and His guidance engaging and FUN!
Nurture students to develop a sense of pride in their Islamic identity through dynamic content and positive role models who demonstrate good character in their words and deeds.
Instill a strong sense of support and inclusion in our diverse MFC community.
Program Content:
The Summer Camp will be collectively working on the same content each week, creating many opportunities for multidisciplinary work and for children of various ages to learn and work together. The content is based on weekly themes developed from Sound Vision Adam's World Academy online children’s offerings. Classroom instruction will be supplemented with subject area videos that feature dynamic host teachers, extensive research on each topic, creative art projects led by an accomplished artist, and supplemental fact sheets, worksheets, and parent resources.
The themes for each week are summarized below. You will be able to register for single weeks or for the entire session.
🕷️ Week 1 (July 7-11): Knowing Allah through His Creation - focus on five different animals/insects found in the Quran. We will be exploring how and why the creature was mentioned, their unique qualities, Arabic vocabulary, and a related art project. We will also be highlighting one of Allah’s beautiful names each day.
🌳 Week 2 (July 14-18): Learning Science from the Quran - focus on the five amazing details of the scientific phenomenon related to the world we live in (planets and stars, oceans and rivers, continents and land forms, climates, and plants). We will also be working on Arabic vocabulary, a related art project, and highlighting one of Allah’s beautiful names each day.
🌍 Week 3 (July 21-25): Celebrating Diverse Cultures - focus on traveling virtually to visit Muslims where they live all over the world. Muslim countries and exploring their unique culture and food (four different Muslim countries and one non-Muslim country from different continents). We will be “traveling virtually” to masaajid in the region, exploring the geography, regional wildlife, and sampling favorite foods. We will also be highlighting one of Allah’s beautiful names each day.
👓 Week 4 (July 28-August 1): Muslim Inventions that Changed the World - focus on five Muslim men and women inventors who utilized their intelligence, scientific knowledge, and creativity to discover inventions that changed the world. Some of these discoveries we are still using today, mashaAllah! We will also be highlighting one of Allah’s beautiful names each day.
Age Requirements:
This program is designed to provide an engaging and enriching educational experience for children ages 6-11.
Students must have finished KG in the 2024-25 school year and be at least 6 years old by July 1.
Students must have previously attended MFC’s Maktab Program during the school term 2023-2024 and/or 2024-2025.
Schedule:
The 4-week semester begins on Monday, July 7, and runs through Friday, August 1, 2025. The class time is scheduled from 10:00am through 3:00pm Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, we will dismiss early at 1:00pm for Jummuah prayer.
The daily schedule will be apportioned with Islamic Studies content in the morning and Quran instruction in the afternoon. We will also focus attention on salat instruction daily in preparation for Dhuhr prayer.
For the Islamic Studies segment, students will be grouped based on age rather than Islamic knowledge into four groups:
1st grade
2nd grade
3rd grade
4th-5th grades
Instruction and activities will be age-appropriate within these separate classes. This will also encourage students to socialize with their peers and develop a strong connection to our school community.
For the Quran segment, students will be grouped according to their individual ability levels. The sessions will largely serve as review and enrichment rather than an opportunity for new instruction. Teachers and teaching assistants will be hired to ensure a student/teacher ratio that supports progress over the semester.
For the Quran segment, placements will be determined from past Maktab classes and evaluations.
The daily schedule includes:
10:00-10:15 Greetings/team building, orientation to daily topic
10:15-11:00 Instruction on daily topic
11:00-11:15 Movement Break/Snack
11:15-12:00 Art Activity
12:00-1:00 Lunch/Recess

1:40-2:00 Quran Session
2:00-2:15 Movement Break/Snack
2:15-3:00 Quran Session continued
Lunch:
Students will be required to bring their own food and drinks. We will have access to refrigeration but not a microwave or stove/oven. Strict attention to allergies and sensitivities will be conveyed if necessary, dependent upon student needs.
Student Capacity:
A total of 70 students can be accommodated for the summer camp at the Waterloo masjid based on available classroom space. Class groupings will ultimately be determined based on actual registrations.
Teaching Staff:
A dynamic team of teachers and teaching assistants willl lead these efforts. Some are seasoned Maktab instructors you will recognize and some are new to the community. All will be committed to providing a welcoming educational environment, enriching content, and engaging activities that make learning FUN!
Registration:
We expect great interest and have a limited number of spaces available. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
