About Us.

Muslim Family Center has been serving Muslims living and working in Howard County, Maryland for over a decade. Since our humble beginnings our congregation has approximately doubled every year. What started as providing only Jummah services has grown to include daily prayer in MFC’s Musallah, exciting weekly and monthly programs for area families and youth, an active Care Committee and much more!

Our Vision

To inspire every Howard County Muslim to live Islam holistically, together.

Our Mission

To nurture spiritual excellence within families by offering purposeful programs and services in an uplifting and inclusive environment.

Our Focus Areas

The MFC Leadership team conducted extensive conversations with community members – including area youth, sisters and elders – and determined that the following areas are most important to our community. These areas are the foundation on which we build our programs and services. We believe in serving locally and people first.

Ramadan 2014.png

Our Story.

When we became parents one of the things that was really important to us was to practice our faith with our children. It was 2014, the Summer was just starting, and with Ramadan around the corner we were desperately seeking programs where we could benefit with our children, together in the same space. We were looking for a space that was warm and inviting, and programming that was spiritually uplifting. Close friends and other families we knew were also in a similar dilemma. There was nothing being offered in the local area, bringing together all members of a family – and we realized in that moment, it was time for a change.

We kicked off the first family-focused Ramadan Taraweeh program in Howard County that Summer. We kept the Taraweeh program short, being mindful of families with young children. Only 1/2 a Juz was recited nightly with a break in the middle for a short talk for reflection. This break gave families a chance to grow together. Our program resonated with many hearts and through word of mouth, grew quicker than we ever imagined.

Today our Ramadan Taraweeh program continues to embody who we are and our values at Muslim Family Center.

Our Core Values.

We have six (6) core values that we live by. Our values are part of our culture and provide the foundation on which we perform work and conduct ourselves.

1. IHSAAN - Striving for Spiritual Excellence and providing the best quality care, programs and services that are purposeful and meaningful

2. INCLUSIVENESS - Providing a welcoming and spiritually uplifting environment for all community members - including our elders, youth and sisters

3. INTEGRITY - Leading with the ethics demanded by our faith in our relationships, work, and finances

4. EMPOWERING - Promoting ownership, championing personal development and elevating others to lead

5. CARING - Adhering to the Prophetic model of caring for the needs of our community members (individuals and families)

6. TEAMWORK - Working together to enjoin the good is better than working alone

Our Future.

Standing up internal processes and earning trust with the community, through purposeful programming specifically for our sisters and our youth in order to meet our goal of being inclusive.

Building a financially sustainable organization using best practices, that can adequately support a full-time Imam, key personnel and resources.
