Community Art Field Trip: Basirah Seeing With Open Hearts
You are warmly invited to join Basirah, a full day of art, discovery, and community in Baltimore. Walk through the Islamic Art galleries of The Walters Art Museum with artist and educator Asma Ahmed Shikoh, share lunch at R-House in Remington, then visit the degree show of local Muslim artist Asma Waheed, Memory: Through Petrichor and Jali, at MICA and hear her speak about her work.

Ellicott City and Baltimore-based multidisciplinary artist, cultural worker, and art educator with 20 years of professional art practice spanning different parts of the globe. Asma recently earned her MFA from MICA and brings both scholarly depth and genuine warmth to everything she facilitates. Basirah is her program, designed specifically for our community.

HOW TO PREPARE
Anticipate time needed to park if you are choosing street parking.
Car pooling is encouraged
Wear comfortable shoes.
Stay hydrated.
Keep your bags light.
THE DAY
10 AM: We encourage you to carpool. We suggest to park in Walter’s Museum parking lot (parking fee approx $10 may apply) or find street parking.
11 AM: Meet in Lobby for Guided tour of the Islamic Art collection with Asma Ahmed Shikoh.
11:10 AM - 1 PM: Gallery tour and discussion at the Walters. Manuscripts, ceramics, metalwork, and more.
1 PM - 2 PM: Community food hall in Remington. Halal options available (buy your own).
2:15 - 3:30 PM: Memory: Through Petrichor and Jali. Degree show and art talk, Leidy Gallery, Fred Lazarus IV Building, MICA. We will also provide area for Thuhr prayers.
4 PM: Return home.
